The memento mori project is an ongoing subjective investigation dealing with architecture and city planning. The working process of each part in this project is carried out in some preset steps:
1.Research before and after arrival in a specific city. This is made in a subjective manner based mainly on people I meet and stories I hear about how people in a city relate to architecture and different buildings in the city. The main goal is to find a reason, a situation and a good story to puzzle the final piece together. 2.Choice of a building to work with.
3.Construction of a miniature model of the building.
4.Burning of the model in a controlled way but to the point of being completely charred.
The work of art is both the process and the resulting sculpture and could be shown in different ways, preferably in a close relation to the actual building. Further, each work is a part of the ongoing project which forms a irregular tour of a pyromaniac alter-ego. This parts will be published together as the different choices and stories of different locations cast light on each other.
Part #2, Oslo: The “Blitz-building”. A since long time occupied building threatened with demolition in central Oslo. The identity of the building is very ambiguous. The partly public activity in the building is considered dangerously anarchistic by some; to conservative (and thus blocking the development of new cultural scenes) by others.
This work was shown at gallery “Bastard” in Oslo 2006.
